For the 20th consecutive year, Occidental College is one of the top producers of student and alumni Fulbright Awards, according to the Chronicle of Higher Education’s annual .

Top-producing institutions are recognized annually for having the highest number of accepted applicants to the Fulbright student and scholar programs. Six Occidental students and alumni were awarded 2024-25 Fulbrights to work and study abroad, and nearly 150 Occidental students and alumni have earned Fulbrights since 2003. Recipients of Fulbright grants are selected on the basis of academic and professional achievement as well as demonstrated leadership potential in their fields.

“Programs like Fulbright allow students and alumni to apply the academic skills and community values they gained at Oxy to new global contexts,” says Jennifer Locke, director of national and international fellowships. “Our Fulbright awardees often discover new professional opportunities as well as personal growth as they contribute to research projects, help teach English, and engage with cultures abroad.”

The Fulbright Program is the United States Department of State’s flagship international educational-exchange program, covering travel, education, and living expenses for awardees. Since 1946, the Fulbright Program has provided over 400,000 students, scholars, artists, and professionals from all fields the opportunity to study and conduct research in more than 160 countries.
