Carel Alé serves as a Deputy Legal Affairs Secretary for California Governor Gavin Newsom. Prior to this position, Carel served as a public defender in Southern California, where she represented indigent criminal defendants at the trial court level. Before being a public defender, Carel worked as a federal appellate and district court clerk, and as an associate in big law practicing plaintiff and defense-side commercial litigation. Carel received her J.D. from Yale Law School, and M.A. and B.A. in Latin American Studies from the University of California, Los Angeles.
