For students currently living on campus, some important housing information for the end of this semester as well as details about spring housing.
Registration for Spring Semester Housing
As President Elam communicated on October 16, the College does not yet know the overall plan for the Spring Semester. Regardless, REHS is able to offer you the ability to remain in on-campus housing for the Spring 2021 Semester. You do not need to petition for spring housing. Please note that all students are still expected to follow all expectations set forth in the Code of Student Conduct and COVID-19 Student Conduct Guidelines; violations of College policy may result in losing your housing privileges. Should you plan to take a leave of absence or do not wish to reside in campus housing for spring, please email Monique Hankerson, associate director of housing services, no later than Tuesday, December 1.
Spring Semester Housing Logistics
As we shared with you during the petition process, it's possible that the College might increase the number of students living on campus this spring--a decision that depends on what is permitted by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. This means housing assignments are likely to change. Bringing more students back will require the College to increase the number of isolation and quarantine rooms on campus. Because County Public Health guidance mandates that isolation and quarantine housing be made up of individual rooms with private restrooms, Berkus Hall will be reserved for that purpose. This means that all students who wish to continue to reside on campus will be required to move into another room assignment in another hall at the end of Fall semester.
All current fall housing students will be assigned to a single room, and prioritized for a residence hall with air conditioning. However, all room assignments will be in residence halls with communal bathrooms. The College will be implementing policies and procedures to promote a safe environment for students who live on-campus and staff that work inside of the halls. REHS and Oxy’s COVID Operations Team will continue to keep you and the campus community updated on these measures. If you have a documented disability that you believe requires you to use a private restroom, please contact Disability Services for more information about the registration process for housing accommodations.
Transition to Spring Room Assignment
All students will need to fully move out of their fall room assignment by Saturday, December 12. Monique Hankerson will send Spring room assignment information to you by Monday, December 7. Given the unique nature of fall semester due to COVID, we understand that some students may wish to leave campus before December 12. In order to best plan, we have created an form. You will be required to complete this and indicate your end-of-semester plan. This form will also serve as the registration for Winter Break Housing. Please visit the to learn more about Winter Break Housing, including cost.
REHS will provide packing and moving supplies (cardboard boxes and tape) for all residents, and Facilities Management will provide select transport times for your items to be moved to your new residence hall before you depart campus. More information about these resources will be shared with students in mid-November. Students who are approved for Winter Break Housing will receive special instructions.
