Some important decisions regarding spring housing have been made as the campus awaits a comprehensive spring update from President Elam in early December.
As noted in the Spring Housing Health & Safety update shared with the community on November 19, the College continues to await official guidance from L.A. County to help us determine what the Spring 2021 semester will look like. A comprehensive update from President Elam regarding spring is expected in early December.
In the meantime, some important decisions regarding spring housing have been made. As previously stated, based on county guidelines, we are able to continue to offer on-campus housing to a limited number of international students and those students facing significant hardships and/or unsafe or unhealthy housing environments. For spring semester, the College is also permitting first-year students who are facing significant hardships and/or unsafe or unhealthy housing environments to petition for on-campus housing.
If you are interested in petitioning for spring housing, please complete the by Tuesday, December 1. Consistent with previous housing petition processes, petitions will be reviewed by a group of representatives from the Dean of Students office, the Dean of the College Office, REHS, Disability Services, Emmons Counseling, and the ICC. Students will be notified of a decision regarding their petition by Friday, December 4.
Students who are tentatively approved for spring housing will need to complete a housing acceptance agreement which will address all student expectations regarding living on campus, as well as information about the timing and logistics of your return. Please also note that, depending on local conditions in January, all students approved to return to campus may be required to quarantine for 14 days in an on-campus room prior to moving into your permanent spring room. Additionally, move-in dates cannot be confirmed at this time, as the College may need to bring students back to campus in different periods in January in order to accommodate health and safety requirements.
If you have any questions regarding spring housing, please email REHS at resed@oxy.edu, or visit the REHS website to sign up for our virtual office hours to speak with a staff member.
Please take care and I wish each of you a wonderful Thanksgiving break,
Isaiah J. Thomas, Ed.D.
