Join us for a live-streamed performance by Dorian Wood and La Victoria.
Join vocalist Dorian Wood and mariachi ensemble La Victoria for an evening of love letters and laments dedicated to community members who are unjustly detained. In this expression of collective grief and community, they will offer songs and words that ring true in our hearts and unify us in these darkest of times.
This event will be live-streamed from the Occidental College campus.
seeks to glorify both the sanctity and irreverence of intimacy. Through the use of their corpulent body and booming voice, Wood revels in challenging the artist-audience separation, using subject matter informed by their position in society as a nonbinary person of color and an autodidact. Their work has been showcased in concert halls and performance spaces around the world, including at The Broad, REDCAT, The Stone (New York) and Teatro De La Ciudad (Mexico City). As a musician, they have released over a dozen recordings. Wood's recent Chavela Vargas tribute project XAVELA LUX AETERNA debuted at the Festival de Arte Sacro in Madrid in 2019.
