A bleach-dye workshop that is part of a series of free art-making workshops for all ages, inspired by the Invisibility: Powers and Perils exhibition.
OXY ARTS, 4757 York Blvd. LA CA 90042
Join us for the 2nd workshop of a 3-part FREE art-making workshop series. In the series, we will be creating projects inspired by our current exhibition, Invisibility: Powers & Perils, curated by Yael Lipschutz and presented in collaboration with Getty's PST ART: Art & Science Collide. The exhibit explores how both invisibility and hypervisibility impact privacy, history, and systems of knowledge on a social, environmental and cosmic level. The exhibiting artists, scientists and activists ask us to consider the dangers and complexities of how visibility functions in the world and cosmos.
Workshop #2: Bleach Dye
Explore how bleach can magically transform blank clothing into works of art. We will make our own cardboard stencils then use bleach to illuminate the stencils' negative space. Inspired by the exhibition's theme of invisibility, we'll witness beautiful shapes emerge from the dark fabric in fiery shades of red and orange. If you have any dark-colored clothing you'd like to transform, we encourage you to bring your own pieces to the workshop. If you don't have anything to bring, don't worry! We will have black shirts available.
This is part of a FREE event series and all supplies are provided by OXY ARTS. No registration required.
Workshop #3: Watercolor & Textiles, Nov. 14
