We hope the following information helps you prepare for your visit to campus.

Plan Your Visit

General Parking

Limited campus parking will be available for guests attending the Inauguration events on Saturday, April 23. General parking will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Directional signage will guide guests to designated parking areas on campus on Inauguration day. We strongly recommend using a rideshare service, as parking on campus will be extremely limited. The designated rideshare will be located in the Booth Parking Lot off of Bird Road at the College entrance located on Campus Road and Ridgeview Avenue.

The terrain of the campus requires considerable walking to and from the Remsen Bird Hillside Theater and many of the parking areas. Comfortable shoes are strongly recommended.

Shuttles will run on designated routes on campus between 12 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Saturday, April 23. Note: after 1:30 p.m., shuttles will no longer run to the main entrance of Hillside Theater for the Installation Ceremony, and will instead take guests needing ADA access to view the Installation Ceremony to the top level of Hillside Theater.

For delegates marching in the Inauguration Procession, please see Processional Information.

Admission to Inauguration Events

Please allow ample time to make your way to the Remsen Bird Hillside Theater and check-in before entering the theater for the Installation Ceremony before the procession begins at 2:00 p.m. Doors to the theater open at 1:00 p.m.

Clothing Suggestions

Because the Remsen Bird Hillside Theater, Academic Quad, and other Inauguration event locations are outdoor venues, please use discretion and check weather reports. April in Southern California can be unseasonably warm and sunny, or overcast and damp. You may appreciate having water, a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen, or a jacket. In addition, Occidental’s campus is situated on a hill. Some pathways are on an incline, and the terrain of the campus can be uneven. Comfortable shoes are strongly recommended.

Attire for general guests attending the daytime events is casual and comfortable for the weather.

Installation Ceremony Seating

Please note that the seats in Remsen Bird HIllside Theater are concrete and have no back support. Therefore, you may want to bring a blanket. Seating in Hillside Theater can also be sunny, although some shade sails will be in place for some portions of the theater. You may appreciate having a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses or a jacket.
